Hobbies
I enter every classroom with the sincere belief that each of my students has something to offer the world as well as something to teach me about the profession of teaching. My students are not blank slates or vessels to be filled with whatever knowledge I deem fit. Instead, I see the individual first and the class second. I want to show each student that he or she has great potential to become a critical thinker, writer, and researcher. More importantly, I teach my students how to apply these skills to the world around them. I want my students to become aware of the hypocrisies of society, the injustices of world governments, and the ignorance that breeds inequality so that they may become local or global advocates of change. I want my students to become better human beings. My role is not only to demystify the use of the semicolon or impress upon them the importance of a thesis statement but also to teach them that they do not live in a vacuum. My students will learn what I already know: that they are capable members of society and have the ability to make the world better.
